Introducing the Kinothek Asta Nielsen

Femfilmfans Kinothek Asta Nielsen
You might have noticed this logo on the bottom right of our homepage, which then might have left you wondering: What is the Kinothek Asta Nielsen? Well, we’d like to tell you about them right now!

The registered association Kinothek Asta Nielsen was founded in Frankfurt am Main in 1999 by a group of women cinema-lovers: women film curators, film historians and theorists, film critics and students, and cinemagoers.

The goal of these women is to find, document and make publicly accessible the film work of women both past - such as Danish silent cinema star Asta Nielsen (1881-1972) who gives the Kinothek its name - and present. They also want to showcase the full range of diversity cinema has to offer, which includes showing Super-8 amateur films, B-pictures and experimental films. For example, they recently presented two short film programs of films made by women in Frankfurt!

We at Femfilmfans will continue to share information about events hosted by the Kinothek Asta Nielsen with our Femfilmfam and strongly encourage you to attend their programs if you are in Germany. We also plan to feature Asta Nielsen in our Women in Film series, post reviews of Asta Nielsen films and books, interview some of the women behind the important work at the Kinothek and more…!

Would you like to be part of the Kinothek Asta Nielsen?
The Kinothek thrives on the interest of its audience and supporters. They welcome suggestions for joint projects and offers to collaborate, which is how Femfilmfans got involved with them! If you become a member of the Kinothek, you support their association long-term. Won't you please consider supporting the work they do?

Since the Kinothek is German and some of our readers (and all our staff) speak German --> Wir laden euch herzlich ein die Webseite zu besuchen. Dort findet ihr alle Infos auf Deutsch sowie auf Englisch: http://www.kinothek-asta-nielsen.de/.
